GdS: Milan decide to invest in the midfield to avoid January emergency

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are determined to make an investment in their midfield this summer due to some selection problems that will arise in the new year.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer are undoubtedly the two starters in the Milan midfield heading into next season, but the management will intervene on the market to strengthen the department.

The paper described it as ‘an almost obligatory move’ to remedy what could be a potential emergency situation come winter. Both Kessie and Bennacer are set to miss a few Milan games because of the AFCON in early January 2022 until the beginning of February, with Ivory Coast and Algeria among the pre-tournament favourites.

That is exactly why a midfielder is needed to ensure that there is someone available to partner with Sandro Tonali – presuming he remains – and also to avoid any scenario whereby Calabria might have to step into the midfield again.
