GdS: Milan’s emergency worsens with Calabria out vs. Monza – Pioli’s plan

AC Milan only returned from Newcastle yesterday, but today they will begin preparing for another crucial game against Monza at San Siro on Sunday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), it was deemed too complicated to leave on Wednesday evening after the game so Stefano Pioli preferred to stay an extra night in England and give the players a day off.

Some, especially those who played less at Newcastle, still stopped by Milanello for a bit of extra work, but today there will be a full training session in the afternoon. The sqyad will begin preparing for Milan-Monza, scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 CET.

Monza have just beaten Genoa, while the Rossoneri must build on their win in Newcastle and erase the defeat against Atalanta. For Pioli there is no middle ground, and instead the requirement to win.

In defence there is an even bigger emergency. Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Alessandro Florenzi are available, while captain Davide Calabria is suspended after the red card he got in Bergamo.

One of Jan-Carlo Simic or Davide Bartesaghi should therefore start, with Simic the favourite because it would allow Theo Hernandez tp return to his preferred left-back position.

Further forward, Bennacer is battling for a spot in the line-up it would be his first as a starter after his return. Noah Okafor, Luka Jovic and Samuel Chukwueze did so well at Newcastle that they are candidates for a start too. More indications should arrive today.
