GdS: Milan are one of five clubs that Conte could join this summer

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are one of five clubs that could make a move for Antonio Conte in the summer with the Italian coach choosing his next job very carefully.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan), there are three options in Serie A for Conte to choose from, and two options outside of Italy.

Conte has not been in work since he left Tottenham in March 2023 and he has clearly been in no rush to take a job that he does not think is a good fit.

There is a chance that Stefano Pioli will be leaving Milan at the end of the season, with the coach potentially needing to win the Europa League if he is to stay at the club and get a new contract.

Conte is a proven winner in Serie A, having won it with both Juventus and Inter. Juventus are one of the other options in Italy for Conte, and Napoli is the other.

Outside of Serie A, there is a vacant post at Bayern Munich come the end of the season with Thomas Tuchel set to depart, whilst there is a very good chance that Chelsea will part ways with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season, so Conte could return to Stamford Bridge.

  1. Conte is just so rigid with his “calcio verticale”… I’m afraid his style would be detrimental to Leao’s development for example.

Who would even play as the two upfront in his system?

    1. Most likely Leao would be sold if Conte comes in… very probably our attack would be new striker + Pulisic (with Okafor as sub)

  2. If Conte arrives there will be too many changes to the formation and team for his tactics to work. It makes more sense to go with Motta who plays a similar 4231 or 433 formation variation so the team shape stays in tack.

Even Motta vertical 272 with 2 players on both wings and 7 players compact in the middle vertical makes more sense than Conte’s 352 or 343.
