GdS: Milan leaders did not appreciate Pioli’s post-Salernitana comment

Stefano Pioli is more under pressure than he has ever been at AC Milan, and the club’s leadership did not appreciate one of the things that he said after the draw against Salernitana.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, Pioli is under pressure for a number of reasons, from the ever-worsening injury crisis to the tactical choices he is making within games, but also the way he speaks to the media.

The coach has long been targeted by fans who for months have been challenging him not only for his choices on the pitch but also for his off-field statements in conferences or interviews, where he often has seemed either too stubborn or borderline resigned.

This has now extended to the club’s hierarchy, who did not appreciate one line in particular that Pioli said in his post-match press conference after the 2-2 draw against Salernitana.

“I’m also worried because we need to rediscover the enthusiasm and magic,” he said. Those words for the club were almost like raising a white flag in the face of a thousand unexpected events for which Pioli himself seems unable to find a solution.

Speaking of public statements, in our recent Substack piece we broke down Geoffrey Moncada’s interview with Milan TV in which he discussed his journey to joining the club, the process of scouting players and his vision for the future.
