GdS: Milan lose game of two halves against ZTE after nightmare start

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan lost their first preseason game since 2019 yesterday as they were beaten 3-2 by ZTE in Hungary after a nightmare start.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) spoke about the game in their paper today, with the precursor being that the Hungarian side are further ahead in their preparation for the new season than the Rossoneri, who have had plenty of players on international duty.

There are worries about the attack, as neither Brahim Diaz nor Yacine Adli represent a guarantee of success in terms of supplying the centre-forward and/or scoring themselves. An alternative to Olivier Giroud is also missing, given that Divock Origi is still recovering from injury.

Milan lost against ZTE because they started the game pretty much as bad as they possibly could, with Meschack Izuchukwu Ubochioma, Attila Mocsi and Mátyás Tajti scoring in the first 27 minutes.

In the second half the likes of Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Rade Krunić, Rafael Leão and Theo Hernández all came on and that certainly improved the tempo of things, with Milan clawing two goals back and almost equalising.

Leao, Theo and Sandro Tonali were among the most promising players by the end of the match. Now, Milan leave Hungary to head to Austria where a mini preseason camp will take place until July 27th.
