GdS: Milan player ratings from Red Star game – duo confused and full-backs outclassed

By Oliver Fisher -

A number of AC Milan players have been criticised for their performance during last night’s 1-1 draw against Red Star by this morning’s player ratings.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) have today published their ratings from the game, which saw the Rossoneri progress into the last 16 of the Europa League by beating Red Star on away goals after a 3-3 draw on aggregate.

As expected, Gianluigi Donnarumma got Man of the Match and a rating of 7.5 out of 10 thanks in large part to a miraculous save on Sanogo. Franck Kessie’s performance was positive too as the Ivorian got a 6.5, both for the penalty scored and for showing commitment and determination.

Fikayo Tomori and Rade Krunic each got a 6 and both seized the opportunity granted to them by Pioli. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Theo Hernandez got the same score for their displays off the bench.

Soualiho Meité and Samu Castillejo were each given a 5.5 as they suffered from ‘confusion and lack of clarity’ while the full-backs Davide Calabria and Diogo Dalot both received a 5 out of 10 as they were ‘outclassed’ on the wings.

The inconsistent Rafael Leao got the same score as did Hakan Calhanoglu, once again far from his standards. Ante Rebic got a 5 too as he was once again not clinical enough. Alessio Romagnoli was the ‘flop’ as he got a 5 – the captain who ‘appears tired and insecure’.
