GdS: Milan player ratings from Inter win – trio deserve big praise but plenty struggle

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan managed to battle back inside the final 20 minutes and overturn a 1-0 deficit against rivals Inter, emerging 2-1 winners at San Siro.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) have published their player ratings for the game, giving the title of man of the match to Olivier Giroud. He struggled for a while to get into the match but didn’t have much service, then came alive with two bits of opportunism to earn a mark of 8 after a match winning brace.

A 7.5 was given to the almost unbeatable Mike Maignan, who could do little about Inter’s goal but kept Milan in it on his own at times with some exceptional reactions. Sandro Tonali was the main man in midfield and established some control in the second half, so a 7 was given to him, as well as for Brahim Diaz who came on and was decisive.

Pierre Kalulu also did well and was rewarded with a deserved 6.5 after stepping up and keeping Lautaro quiet. Romagnoli and Bennacer got a 6, while Rafael Leao got the same as he was kept very quiet by Inter’s defensive shift.

Franck Kessie was judged the worst on the pitch as he got a 4, failing to neutralise Brozovic and also to establish presence in the Inter half. It is no coincidence that Milan came alive immediately after his departure.

Alexis Saelemaekers got a 4.5, Junior Messias got a 5 as did Theo Hernandez as well following his red card. Calabria got a 5.5 because Ivan Perisic got the better of him.
