GdS: Milan player ratings for Liverpool loss – several disasters and few positives

AC Milan did not start their Champions League campaign in the right way at San Siro as they were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool on Tuesday night, and several players have been criticised.

Things were going really well three minutes in when Christian Pulisic hammered in a low shot to give Milan the lead, but Konate and Van Dijk scored headers from set pieces to put Liverpool in front, then Szoboszlai’s second-half goal killed the game off.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has their ratings from the game, starting with the overall performance from the team which got a 4.5 out of 10, as did Paulo Fonseca’s management.

The best player on the field was the substitute Tammy Abraham who got a 6.5, while Davide Calabria was run ragged at times and he got a 4.5, which makes him the worst performer.

The only other players who got a passing grade were Mike Maignan – who came off injured in the second half after a number of impressive saves – Youssouf Fofana, Christian Pulisic and Lorenzo Torriani. They were all awarded a 6.

Fikayo Tomori was given a 5.5, as were Alvaro Morata and Rafael Leao, while Strahinja Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rafael Leao were scored a 5.

  1. I honestly don’t see Pavlovic any better than Gabbia im not sure why we bought him and Emerson should have just went for Hummels and bought an actual DM with the money. Fofana isn’t a natural DM this management is clueless.

      1. The signings we made weren’t what we needed, they were what Gerry and how clowns perceive as ‘value’. I think Pavlovic will end up being good, ut right now we aren’t fit for purpose in the CL

    1. Hermoso and Hummels available for free.
We could use that experience to compete now, especially given we had several young centre backs.

Hojbjerg was an economical expeienced DM, ready to compete now.

Kalulu swapped for Emerson and Simic sold for 3m.

The heart/soul has been ripped out of this team.

Fire Maldini, give away his son out of pure arrogance. Ibra fired Abate father because he didn’t play his son.

      Tonali sold.

      No Italians in the team.

      Foreign coach

Of course we have no guts, Milan is a bunch of mercenaries with no connection to the club.

Next summer we will buy another new midfield.

      1. Correct on everything buddy

We will replace the midfield for the third summer run a row, but the RedTurd fa boys will say ‘look Gerry has spent 250m….🙄.

        1. Yeah he will spend 250 million if he can end up selling Leao, Maignan and Hernandez for 210 million. He never spent more than 40 million euros on one market. But people say he spent plenty…His budgets are suited to trying to qualify for the CL in Portugal or France, not winning Serie A and being competitive in Europe.

  2. Gabbia looked assured when he came on. Cardinale is paying the price for his cheap ‘value’ moneyboll@ks strategy. RLC and Fofana way out of their depth last night but that’s what you get for 20m….

    1. Yeah Gabbia understands what it means to play with this jersey and in this stadium. Grinta. Most of the guys play in San Siro like it’s already not Milan’s home anymore.

  3. The saying “no expectation, no disappointment” is forever true. Milan is slowly improving, but, obviously, a lot of fans expect wonders in the Champions league from a team that is still in a building process. Man utd would have paid more for Fofana, so, signing him was not a wrong move. We can’t condemn the whole team because of yesterday’s defeat. Mourinho lost 5-0 to Barcelona in his first “el clasico”, but, had the last laugh before leaving Madrid. Despite losing against Forest, this Liverpool team beat Man utd at Old Trafford, incase we have forgotten so soon. Last night’s defeat will spur this team on.

  4. FYI This is from Juve’s game

Kalulu 6.5 – A strong start with a nice through ball down the right flank. Great cross-field pass a few minutes later. Solid defensively.

    1. Always thought it was a big mistake to kick him out off the club. The management only thought to get some money in their pocket. He is going to be one of Juventus’ best player.

  5. morata shoulkd be 6 fofana was awful he should be like 5 fofana hasnt really showed yet and i was one of the few that didnt want the signing to happen but lets see

  6. We keep on selling good players and replacing them with mediocres 😭🤦.
We sold SIMIC and KALULU then got EMERSON ROYAL 🙆. Our scouting departments are very bad, can’t scout good players and coaches. Always coming up with crap. Our Primavera and Futuro players are never ready! SMFH

  7. Milan lack aggression in the midfield. We need to deploy the midfield of Musah and Fofana as a double pivot, the Reinjder in the attacking midfield. Mattias Gabbia should be a starter for Milan this season. We lack aggression in this department.
