GdS: Milan player ratings for Torino win – three players impress

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan finally got their second win of 2023 as they beat Torino 1-0 at San Siro on Friday night thanks to a goal from Olivier Giroud in the second half.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) contains the ratings that have been given to each Milan player and the coach after the positive display.

Three players stood out above the rest as they received a rating of 7/10. They were goalscorer Giroud, centre-back Malick Thiaw, and fellow defender Pierre Kalulu who looked back to his best.

Sandro Tonali and Theo Hernandez both showed improvement compared to recent weeks and they received 6.5, which is the same rating that Stefano Pioli received.

Whilst the points were crucial, the overall performance was not thrilling, meaning many players were given 6/10. They were Ciprian Tatrusanu in goal, Alexis Saelemaekers, Rade Krunic, Brahim Diaz, Matteo Gabbia and Charles De Ketelaere.

Two players still really struggled to show their best form and they were Simon Kjaer (5.5) and Rafael Leao (5).

  1. Giroud is class sheer class …what don’t some of you believe it ..in the first half we were poor ,but second half we were much better ..Great headed goal from Olivier ..typical of him ..He delivers when it matters ,if he has good service he will score goals against anyone
He will be the main man against Tottenham in the champions leauge ..A little bit disappointed from Rafeol Leao as he did not seem to have the beating of his markers and thus able to deliver crosses in ..That said he is a class player and will be at his best soon .?
Theo Hernandez ,much better from him ..Also thought salamakers did really well fought for every ball ,and put some good passes together..So a better performance second half from us ,but still not back to our best ..Still fancy us however to finish in the top four and beat Tottenham in the champions leauge .

  2. Benched calabria, would be better for milan. Salamaker did good for attacking and defending side. If you watch this game last night, when calabria and gabbia in, torino attack more easily. Pioli homework to closed the gap between starting and subtitute player.

  3. Obviously this is a team sport, and easy to call out players. I like Diaz, unfortunately he is easily pushed off the ball, when this happens the attack goes out the window, and the rest of the players become non effective, we get on the counter attack with players forward and cannot get service as we lose the ball, the 10 position over the past years has become a more physical position, Rebic has played there before, him or Krunic are the muscle we need there. Glad to see Pioli playing Theo higher like Deschamps does besides assist almost scored.

  4. Yes he did save us but remember during the game kjaer need him to come out for that ball and he did not and it almost resulted in a goal….before this game 13 shots kick on him and 11 scored….6 is what he derved because if torino did get more shots on target it would have scored on him

  5. Pretty sure GDS has a thing against Saelemaekers. Literally every other outlet praising him, saying he was one of the best but GDS going at it again.

Dw Alexis, Milan fans know your worth even though you’re not flashy.
