AC Milan have joined the rest of the teams around them (Roma excluded) in having just one competition to focus on, so now a top four finish becomes a must.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning (via MilanNews), there has been talk for several months about a Scudetto fight and the idea of winning the Europa League, but slowly that has been whittled down and refined back to the one main target: the Champions League.
Finishing in the top four is a must for the team because of two reasons: prestige and economics. The dream of European glory vanished last night as Milan failed to take advantage of a good performance against Manchester United, but now they must focus on the league because Milan cannot afford not to qualify for the next Champions League.
On Sunday, the team will be back in action in Florence against Fiorentina – a match to be won at all costs. Then there will be the international break, which should hopefully help in terms of recovering some key players. The Diavolo must immediately dispose of the disappointment and make sure they secure the one major target.
