GdS: Milan struggling more than most for contribution from the bench – the numbers

By Oliver Fisher -

Despite being one of the higher scoring teams in Serie A, it appears as though Stefano Pioli has struggled to get a big impact from his substitutions.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan have made 118 substitutions this season in Serie A, with only Crotone, Torino and Udinese having made more in the league so far in the current campaign.

Looking at the numbers, the Rossoneri have obtained only 4 goals from substitutes thus far with 2 coming from Jens Petter Hauge – against Napoli and Sampdoria – one from Samu Castillejo and one from Rafael Leao.

In total, Pioli’s team have scored 57 goals in the league, which means that the contribution of goals from players off the bench stands at just 7.02%, a very low percentage compared to other teams as per the paper.

It is just another quirk that Milan struggle with, along with seemingly home form and when going a goal behind.
