GdS: ‘Milanić’ – Moncada pushes ahead with €35m deal for Serbian duo

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in talks over deals for two Serbian players that would reinforce the defence and the midfield, namely Strahinja Pavlovic and Lazar Samardzic.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write this morning, Pavlovic is much more than a target for Milan, who have an agreement with the player over personal terms and are dealing with Red Bull Salzburg with great optimism.

The Austrian started with a request of €30m but Milan expects to close at €20-22m. For a similar amount last summer the likes of Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders, Musah and Chukwueze all arrived.

What plays in Milan’s favour is his current salary, around €700k net per season and with the Rossoneri it would not just increase but multiply. The directors are certain meanwhile that Pavlovic would be a very useful acquisition.

He would bring characteristics not present in the squad: he is tough, he has a scary physique and he is intimidating. Then, of course, he’s left-footed. In recent years, Milan have always used Fikayo Tomori on the centre-left, right-footed but willing to adapt.

In addition, Pavlovic can play with three or four at the back – though Fonseca has no doubts, four is better – and he played the European Championship with Serbia on the left. He can lend a hand in many roles and defend in the open field, as the new coach likes.

Not only that, but given that he only turned 23 in May, he has plenty of time to improve. So, watch out for next week: Milan have been busy in recent days with Morata, whose clause was paid yesterday, but the friendly against Rapid Wien in Austria could bring developments.

Samardzic meanwhile was one step away from Inter last summer and even did his medical before complications arose involving his father-agent. He is one of the players that the club and the coach really like, who would gladly give him a role in midfield.

The 22-year-old is a multifaceted midfielder who can play as a No.8 or a No.10 and he has had three good seasons with Udinese. He is a different profile from that of Youssouf Fofana, who the club would like to sign to put in front of the defence.

For the Serbian, the club are thinking of an offer of €15m to Udinese, more or less the same expense hypothesised for Fofana. Lazar is three years younger and has potential that could develop further. The salary would also be in line with the parameters.

  1. On FM24 Samardzic was key to my 3 man Milan midfield for 10 seasons, and then I brought him to Marseille for one last dance.

Then anxiety kicked in about some impending work deadlines so I uninstalled to go cold turkey 😀

      1. Bad, good. Irrelevant. It’s insulting for a club of Milan stature to lowball gor every fúcking player. Everyone knows we have money, the fûcking financial papers are public

        1. How is it insulting? It’s honestly stupid NOT to offer lower than asking. We go to Okafor for 13m when they started asking 35m…should we be ashamed, or applauded. This take that because we have the money we should spend it by meeting asking prices immediately and not bargaining is a terrible one.

          1. Never said that we should meet the asking price immediately.
And ashamed. Definitely ashamed. This is not how a football giant should conduct business.

          2. I’m ashamed we got Okafor for 22m less than asking. Let’s crowdfund the difference to restore Milan’s honor. LOL

        2. What is insulting is so-called fans b*tching every day about the team they claim to SUPPORT. I’d rather have Milan known as the team that haggles than the IDIOTS who overpay for every fng player.

          1. It’s one or the other, is it?

You’re caps make out ‘support idiots’. Is that your official stand or…?

          1. Perez definitely doesn’t know how to conduct business. Real has a 2 billion debt. United is United..After SAF left they’ve been just throwing money around rarely buying anything good or for the long haul

          2. It’s one thing to demand excessive amount as in Yoro case and another when you’re buying players who are valued in “normal” amount such as 20-25 millions. And Milan are lowballing to the point that it’s embarrassing.

But the biggest problem is, we are losing time. There’s new coach who won’t have much time to implement his ideas and losing time makes it even more difficult for him to work properly. Remember CdK and Chuk? They both came late in the window and we all know how that went though the season…

        3. That’s why you don’t own a company and they do. Even if they have money they shouldn’t just throw it around.

          1. How do you know I don’t own a company? When companies buy materials it’s a fixed price, the market is regulated, more or less… football isn’t regulated at all.

And I’m my own company, since I work freelance, my price is also fixed. I won’t charge more to someone who’s richer. Tho I probably should 🤔

        4. nothing against you, but I find it hilarious that people get worked up by this… hahaha

if he signs ultimately, do you care what the offer was?

          1. The point is he won’t sign. I find this taking out of context arguments ridicoulous, like “why should we pay 50mil…” no one is saying that we should pay 50mil but that we should offer close to the value of the player cause Udinese and any other team for that matter won’t accept underpayment for their players which is normal. So we only waste time while other teams get the job done. Thats why we lose on players 90% of the time when some other club goes for our target as well. So Flyingturtle is right. This responce is in general for the whole tread.

          2. I do care what the offer was and what the final price is.

If the roles are reversed and udine offer 15M for Chuku or maybe Ruben we’d just laugh them off, wouldn’t we? Or let’s say real offers 30M for Theo. Ridiculous, right?
