GdS: No rotation before Leverkusen – Fonseca expected to use same XI vs. Lecce

After such an impressive performance against Inter, a report has suggested that Paulo Fonseca will not rotate his AC Milan XI in the game against Lecce, even with a big Champions League on the horizon.

Milan’s victory against Inter displayed several things that have not been seen this season. A team that fought for one another, fought for the coach, and above all, fought for the fans. Ultimately, a team that represented the Rossoneri spirit.

With such a performance, there are questions about how much can be changed from that team. Given Fonseca altered his tactics, there may be some additional time required to allow the squad to embed themselves into their roles, so making wholesale changes is unwise.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) looks to a famous saying in this morning’s paper – you can’t change a winning team, and it seems Fonseca will abide by the saying on this occasion. As a result, changes against Lecce are not expected.

There is one doubt – Strahinja Pavlovic is keen to return to the starting eleven, and he could displace one of Matteo Gabbia or Fikayo Tomori. Elsewhere there should not be any changes, and the starting four will remain the same with Fonseca’s experiment working fantastically.

    1. Very sick comment.
If that fails who will you blame?

Now he has tried something that worked against Inter you’re here suggesting again that he should bench one striker for RLC that got absolute no business in the AM position.

  1. Perfect. Start with the best players, go 3-0 up, and then rotate. Basically the opposite of what Pioli was doing: rotate too much, go 0-2, and then bring in all the important players anyway to rescue a draw.

    1. That’s one of the reasons I never endorsed PIOLI. The Scudetto he won with us was a miracle. I think I can do better than him as a Coach because he lacks common sense.

  2. I am not against rotation. For the fact that Focensa tactics worked against Inter does not does not guarantee its going to work in all cases. A good coach should be able to figure out what tactics the opponent is coming with. So looking at our next opponent, Lecce, I think they are coming to San siro to play defensive game. So we need few players who can take on defenders one on one.

  3. “There is one doubt – Strahinja Pavlovic is keen to return to the starting eleven, and he could displace one of Matteo Gabbia or Fikayo Tomori. Elsewhere there should not be any changes”.

    Can’t be Gabbia right

  4. Lot of you guys seem to have forgotten how good Tomori actually is… He wasn’t great those first couple of matches but that simply is because he is a way better left centre back than he is a right one.

One doubt: Pavlovic coming in: that is a huge gamble. You all like him because of his aggressiveness but that causes huge gaps which any Serie A team knows how to take advantage, he basically acts as a 1man defence, lacking positioning and awareness of his centre back partner. Tomori and Gabbia have that understanding, they know exactly what space is inbetween them. For the moment I would only introduce Pavlovic in a 3man defence when we are protecting a lead – like we did against Inter – and let him learn in the meanwhile from the more experienced guys. He still got lots to learn, but he definitely doesn’t lack mentality
