GdS: Osti ends up on trial – Pioli’s trusted collaborator for 12 years

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have had 30 injuries this season and the number continues to rise seemingly with each passing game, causing the finger to be pointed at various potentially responsible figures.

According to what is being reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the number of physical problems could have previously represented an alibi for Stefano Pioli and his staff, but now it has become an aggravating circumstance.

In particular, Matteo Osti – the AC Milan athletic trainer – is in the dock. Born in 1971, originally from Ostiglia, in the province of Mantua, Osti took care of the athletic preparation of Chievo in Serie A in 2010, then of Palermo.

His collaboration with Stefano Pioli began at Bologna in 2011 and continued at Lazio, Inter, Fiorentina and Milan. After the endless series of injuries he is on trial, with a growing portion of the fan base making it clear on social media they they believe he is to blame.

Pioli commented on the issue: “The situation is complex, honestly there are many. It is a problem that we must try to resolve quickly but which certainly sees us in difficulty at the moment.

“We are putting everything we have into it in terms of collective and individual preparation, prevention and treatment. We have been working together for a long time and there are many of us working at Milanello but at the moment what we do is not giving us the results we hoped to achieve.”

The other information online about Osti reminds us of him as the winner of the title of best trainer of 2021-22, the year of the Rossoneri’s Scudetto. He was awarded with the Golden Chronometer after a vote by his own colleagues. Today it seems like a distant memory.

  1. I get not hastily firing Pioli mid season if there aren’t suitable replacements that will raise our level and make us competitive for the rest of the season (who honestly available right this second who realistically would turn this team around?) but tbh I think Osti should be immediately fired and replaced. 30 injuries is enough actually its way more than enough we should have dealt with this months ago when management said they would!! While I do agree Pioli isnt the man to take us to the next level, everyone is using him as a scapegoat and its ridiculous to think that with him being sacked all of this will magically get better

    1. The thing is that Pioli still needs to approve the physical preparation plan Osti comes up with. It’s ultimately his responsibility that the team can perform on the pitch.

  2. Don’t agree with you at all ..poili is a very good coach ,and he would succeed at most clubs .
We need to sort out why so many injuries..that’s the priority. If you think that getting rid of pioli ,and a new manager then you are just delusional..
What we need to do is see what happens at the end of the season ..A top 4 finish would be reasonable to accept as would to win the coppa italia ..What about reaching or winning the final of the Europa ..
If any of those happen ..Then given all the injuries we have had to content with ..I see that as success.
Now onto our next game ..play jovic with Giroud up front ..Yes I mean that ..supply decent crosses into the penalty area and goals should come ..The midfield has been our weakness. I am not saying that this can carry on ,but just in our next game against sassulo .
Just don’t keep blaming one player ,,such as Olivier Giroud or Rafael leao ..Giroud will score goals ,no doubt about that ,,but he needs decent service.
I predicted that Giroud would score around 20 goals this season in all competitions..He can easily do that ,
Yes he needs a break sometimes..We have jovic around who seems as if he has hit form .so why panic with our forwards..
When jovic came on Olivier actually looked more effective, and indeed combined well and jovic scored a goal…I was a little disappointed with Loftus cheek last game and indeed reinders ..pulisic looked a little of pace as well ,,but that’s how it goes sometimes..
Players go through phases ,,just look at Marcus Rashford last season at msn Utd over 30 goals this season only a couple ..
We have a good group of players ,but obviously you can’t compete as a team unless you have fit players .
Reafeo Leo is class ,,to much is expected of him sometimes…The form will change for the better soon .
Stay positive fans ..We will come good again .

    1. Good points, and good mentality, except one: Pioli is not a very good coach. And he hasn’t succeeded at most clubs. His scudetto with milan is his only one in 20 or so years of management. And even ignoring that, the tactics are just not very good this season. We struggle to make chances and get carved apart way too easily. If none of his tweaks work, then he probably isn’t the man to take us forward. Also he’s ultimately responsible for the injury crisis as the man who supervises training.

      1. Exactly plus say we do come in 4th this season. Do you really want to keep Pioli on again as coach? That can’t happen, he has run his course, time to move on.

    2. Players struggle when the team doesn’t play as a unit and in synchrony. Rashford, as you mentioned, is a perfect example of that as ManUtd is a bigger wreck than us.

Scudetto winning year we had the right mix of players, staff and mentality, thanks to Ibra and Maldini. We were a UNIT and we won as one.

Past two seasons we started coming off the rails, dropping points to teams we have no business losing to. Ridiculous number of njuries accumulating. Players palpably dropping in quality. Team looking in disarray…

Pioli is a limited coach and when left to himself and under a spotlight it becomes very evident. If you watch the games, you see the same tactical limitations and the problems that come with it. Pioli can clearly see it isn’t working and yet nothing changes.

THAT is on the coach. Osti isn’t at fault here – he’s just a pimple at the surface. Milan needs to cure the real ailment here.

  3. This same muscles problems diminishes players abilities at milan and rendered them injury prone. But only on muscles injuries. I must say this is one issue with Rebic! Otherwise he would still be going strong by now! ..
