GdS: Pioli relieved as Romagnoli passes first test – he will be ready to face Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

Head coach Stefano Pioli can breathe a sigh of relief as Alessio Romagnoli passed the first test ahead of Saturday’s derby against Inter.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via MilanLive), the Milan captain was present during a training match at Milanello on Sunday against the Primavera, which demonstrated that he has indeed made a full recovery from the issue that kept him out of the last part of the 2019-20 season until now.

It is a blessing for Pioli who will already be without Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte as well as Matteo Gabbia, who tested positive for Coronavirus while on international duty with Italy’s U21 side.

Unless there are twists, Kjaer-Romagnoli will be the defensive pairing who will have to deal with Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez in the derby on Saturday, and for Romagnoli it will be a baptism of fire in his first competitive game for three months.

If Romagnoli does not yet have 90 minutes in his legs, Pioli can only rely on emergency solutions such as moving Calabria centrally or trying Kessie there.
