GdS: Pioli yelled at De Ketelaere just before Roma’s goal – what he said

Charles De Ketelaere was one of the flops for AC Milan in the 1-1 draw against Roma as he lost the ball just before the Giallorossi’s opener. Interestingly enough, Stefano Pioli’s words may have initiated that sequence.

De Ketelaere came off the bench in the 75th minute to replace Ismael Bennacer. However, the Belgian had zero impact in attack and struggled to keep hold of possession, which was evidenced on Roma’s goal as he lost the challenge against Gianluca Mancini.

Roma then quickly countered and managed to open the scoring. Interestingly enough, as reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Pioli wasn’t happy with De Ketelaere and angrily yelled ‘Charles, wake up!’ just one minute before Roma took the lead.

Contrary to the paper’s report, some are now saying that Pioli yelled ‘Dai Charles, dai!’, which means ‘Come on, Charles, come on!’. A phrase that the manager uses for all of his players all the time.

These words probably resulted in De Ketelaere dropping down to involve himself in the play, but it went horribly wrong. The €35m man continues to disappoint, but there is still time to redeem himself with five league games to go, and boy could he use a goal at this point.
