GdS: Predicted XIs for Milan vs. Monza – Morata included in strong side

AC Milan will play their final preseason game of the summer tonight when they take on Monza at San Siro, hoping to once again hoist the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy aloft.

With just a few days to go until the start of the 2024-24 Serie A season, the Rossoneri will take on their Lombardy neighbours after returning from the United States where they beat Manchester City (3-2), Real Madrid (1-0) and Barcelona (4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw).

According to what is being reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Paulo Fonseca is likely to field Mike Maignan in goal in what will be his first and only preseason appearance, with Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez the full-backs plus Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori in the middle.

Ismael Bennacer is expected to be joined by Tijjani Reijnders in the midfield double pivot, which then pushes Ruben Loftus-Cheek further forward into the attacking midfielder position he played in last season.

That is because Christian Pulisic will miss the game due to an ankle knock, which in turn means Samuel Chukwueze and Rafael Leao are down as the right and left wingers respectively, with the other new addition Alvaro Morata leading the line.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Thiaw, Hernandez; Bennacer, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Morata.

Predicted Monza (3-4-2-1): Pizzignacco; Izzo, Mari, Carboni; Birindelli, Bondo, Pessina, Kyriakopoulos; Maldini, Mota; Petagna.

  1. LOL some comments here LOL. None of you are there to see them train so perhaps you should leave it up to the coach who is there daily to decide who starts and who doesn’t. Why should Jovic start ahead of Morata? Why you want Maldini to score against your own club – because he wasn’t good enough and got sold? Why should Gabbia start ahead of Thiaw? Because he won his spot last year? Last year is last year, this is a new season and every player needs to earn the right to start all over again. You think Guardiola at Man City or Carletto at Real Madrid start their players because of what they did last season? SMH!!
