Ante Rebic and Divock Origi keep disappointing in the opportunities that they are being given by Stefano Pioli, which gives AC Milan a problem to resolve.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the final month and a half of the season could be decisive for both players as it could lead to a resurgence that alters the plans for their futures or it could escalate their passage to the exit door.
In the summer one or both could remain, though a double exit seems unlikely given other signings are also needed and it is hard to do a complete revolution.
However, the fact is that Origi and Rebic were meant to be the first two alternatives to Olivier Giroud since Zlatan Ibrahimovic is 41 and has only managed 143 minutes throughout the season.
Milan have the second-best attack in the league (51 goals, tied with Inter and Atalanta, behind Napoli’s 67) but it is little thanks to the Croatian and the Belgian who have played 2,125 minutes combined – 1,140 for Rebic, 985 for Origi.
Ante has 29 appearances, 11 of which are starts. Divock has 30, including 8 from the first minute. In short, they have had ample chance to show their worth and yet the former Eintracht Frankfurt man has three goals to his name, the ex-Liverpool striker just two.
Dividing the total minutes on the pitch (2,125) by the number of goals (5) we obtain an average of one goal every 425 minutes. In detail: one every 380 minutes for Rebic, one every 492 for Origi.
Then there is the economic discussions. Rebic earns €3.5m net per season and Origi €4m which means that each goal scored by the two has cost €1.5m, or €2m in gross. Stefano Pioli waits for any kind of encouraging signs, while the summer window draws closer.
