GdS: From Leal to Mourao – the staff Fonseca will bring with him to Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

It is now well known that Paulo Fonseca will be arriving at AC Milan some time this month to sign as the new head coach, but not much is known about those who he will bring with him.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Fonseca will certainly return to Italy with a different supporting cast compared to those who he had with him during his two-year spell at Roma from 2019 to 2021.

It is a detail that hasn’t been talked about much, but when selecting the coach Milan gave a lot of consideration to the staff that the candidate would bring with them, such as the athletic trainer and the level of the assistants.

The paper confirms that Paulo Ferreira is likely to join Fonseca at Milan, a former defender at Porto and Chelsea that we profiled in a feature yesterday. He has worked with Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, among others.

Tiago Leal is someone that remains from Fonseca’s years at Roma, while Paulo Mourao – the physical trainer – is new, given that the Portuguese brought him to Lille from Spartak Moscow.

Stéphane Caterina, Karim Hader and Mario Sandua worked with him in France, while what remains to be understood is whether Antonio Ferreira will join Fonseca for his new adventure, the goalkeeping coach brought in from Shakhtar.
