GdS: Star Milan midfielder Bennacer to miss the derby after repeat of thigh problem

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer is almost certain to miss Sunday’s derby against Inter with another thigh problem, a report claims.

The Algeria international made his second start since the 2-2 draw against Parma in early December during which he sustained a muscle problem. His recovery process was long and Milan certainly felt his absence on the pitch, but the positive news wasn’t to last for long.

Bennacer limped off in the latter stages of the first half with what looked like another thigh problem. Sandro Tonali came on in his place and had a solid game, but with important fixtures on the horizon it is a big blow.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Bennacer would in all likelihood have been a starter on Sunday in the derby alongside Franck Kessie, who was rested.

However, it seems as though the 23-year-old has relapsed somewhat as he reported a muscle problem in the flexor muscle of his right thigh flexor and will therefore not be able to take the field against Inter. The extent of the damage is to be determined.
