GdS: How summer tournaments will disrupt Fonseca’s start at Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Paulo Fonseca will be announced as the new head coach of AC Milan within the next couple of weeks, but the summer of major tournaments will add an obstacle to his early plans.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fonseca is currently in Portugal with his family having a break after the season that has just finished, but he should sign his contract in the next 10 days and in the meantime talks with the management are continuous.

However, he will not have everyone available from day on at Milanello, and that includes his compatriot Rafael Leao. The winger will be busy at the European Championships with Portugal and the date on which he will be available again for Milan is obviously still to be defined.

The same goes for Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan (France), for Tijjani Reijnders (Holland) and Luka Jovic (Serbia). Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic will instead be involved in the Copa American, and Ismael Bennacer is with Algeria who will face Guinea and Uganda in the next few days.

The journey with the respective national teams will then dictate the timing of the return to Milanello and consequently the day that they will be able to shake hands with the new coach for the first time.

Thus, Fonseca still doesn’t know – also thanks to the mercato – when he will be able to have the entire group available.
