AC Milan's Italian coach Stefano Pioli

GdS: The four major areas Milan must address in the summer transfer window

It is a very important summer for AC Milan as they look to add new blood to the squad in various crucial areas, with La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighting the main roles to fix.

The paper (seen below) highlights how Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada must aim to address a number of different positions while Stefano Pioli must decide on whether he wants to go with a 4-2-3-1 again or switch to more of a 4-3-3.

The main roles that need improving are the midfield – which looks a lot weaker at present given the sale of Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer’s injury – with Ruben Loftus-Cheek the first arrival.

Then there is a doubt about the attacking midfielder role given that Brahim Diaz has not yet been replaced after his loan spell ended, with Daichi Kamada linked but not official yet.

Then there is the right wing position where Pioli has struggled for consistency given Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers have been so up and down, while finally it is arguably the centre-forward role that is the biggest issue to try and fix.

  1. So only 50% of the team then…

To me, the central midfield areas are key and we need at least two more names in there. At least then we’d be able to field a team there. With Rebic, de Ketelaere, Messias and Origi we might not have the quality we need in AM, RW and CF but we do at least have bodies in those shirts – in CM we don’t even have that at the moment; I’d argue only RLC and Krunic are really proper CMs.

    1. So Pobega is not proper CM? Didn’t he play as CM instead of DM at Torino? Then what is his position? Did you mean “not proper DM” instead?

    2. Right now for double pivot we have RLC, Pobega and Krunic. Bennacer will be back in November/December – so we need one more player there. My preference is Dominguez/Amrabat, or even Musah.

  2. We need Kamada in every aspect. Quality player, Versatile position, Experience, Free Agent, Low Salary. So dumb if we didn’t manage to get him

  3. Who is going to be deputy to Theo if balo toure leaves? Need a good deputy for leao too. We cant risk over burning our star players

    1. I doubt Ballo Toure will leave. He’s cheap and we gave away the best young left back a year ago. For the same price I don’t think we’ll get a decent replacement who’s willing to be a complete backup. Maybe a loan signing last minute who could play either side.

    2. Why can’t Calabria cover for both sides like full backs have done for decades in tittle winning teams?

Eg Maldini, Panucci, De Sciglio, Phil Neville, Costacurta, Giaccherini, Pessotto, Denis Irwin, Zambrotta, Zanetti, Akanji….

  4. Then sign Kamada I don’t think there is a reason to keep stalling the transfer you are not gonna find better in CAM so just sign him . ” But we are gonna lose the last non EU spot” ok there’s more than a mil players they can find in the other areas I’m 💯 sure of that

  5. 4 major area :
RW : Pulisic / saladmaker ( sell junior messias)
    Double pivot : RLC,Bennacer,Pobega,Krunic,Yunus & Reijnders
AMF : Kamada / CDK or adili
    CF:Giroud,new player,colombo
Note : We need 6 player for double pivot because bennacer injury till january and he still need time for physical / stamina recovery but if change formation to 433 no need to sign kamada because adili can play 3 midfield & CDK can play RW
