GdS: Morata not alone at Milanello – who was present despite Fonseca granting break

By Oliver Fisher -

Milanello is a deserted place at the moment given the days off that Paulo Fonseca gave the squad and the sheer number of players away on international break, but four players were present yesterday.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, the main story is that Alvaro Morata returned to working on the field at the training ground – albeit individually – as he looks to recover in view of the Venezia, Liverpool and Inter games straight after the break.

However, the Spanish striker was not the only one to report on what was the first of four days off granted to the team by Fonseca, as Malick Thiaw, Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Sportiello were also there at Milanello.

The other three injured players were there to continue their respective recoveries. The German defender – who missed the away match against Lazio due to an ankle problem – appears to be recoverable for the match against Venezia in eight days.

Florenzi, after tearing his cruciate and meniscus during the American tour, underwent physiotherapy yesterday: he won’t return to the field before the Spring. Sportiello also injured the index finger of his left hand in the USA and will have it for about another two months.

The return to Milanello for those players who are not away with their national teams is scheduled for Monday afternoon, to begin preparing for the visit of the Venetians.

  1. i just don’t get it,
we’ve Calabria, Flo, Salad, Tera & Kalulu @RB why we sign Royal? too expensive as backup nor good enough as 1st choice, while we’ve only Balo-Toure as LB backup.
why we didn’t sign DeSciglio (home-grown, experienced & free), i think he’s good enough as backup, Empoli sign him so it must be less salary, he can cover LB/RB & CB (urgent). maybe he’s not best choice but better than Royal, Balo-Toure, Tera even better than Flo (also healtier), Calabria & Salad @LB
