GdS: Top salary, starting spot and Pioli’s call – Milan believe they can win Thuram race

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are not letting go of Marcus Thuram and continue to try and convince him to join on a free transfer, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write that Milan are battling competition from PSG who have offered him a big contract, but now Thuram must decide on his next club after opting to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Milan are pressing hard to convince the player to say yes to their offer and while the Frenchman hasn’t chosen yet, he will soon and the Rossoneri remain hopeful that they have put forward a winning pitch.

A very high salary of €5-5.5m net per season has been put forward by Milan and, in addition to this, the Diavolo can also offer Thuram a leading role given that he would work alongside Olivier Giroud.

Stefano Pioli is trying personally to convince him to accept the move and in recent days he has also called him. The 25-year-old would find several of his compatriots such as Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, as well as obviously Giroud.

PSG are also trying, even if the Luis Enrique could change the plans of the Parisians. Before the Spaniard, the big favourite to take Christophe Galtier’s place was in fact Julian Nagelsmann, who likes Thuram.

However, the former Roma boss Enrique prefers different players for his game. RB Leipzig are also in the running to sign Thuram it seems, so Milan are waiting and hoping they have done enough.

  1. From 4,5m euro nett salary now 5,5m euro nett , it seems AC Milan serious . Furlani want to make trio leao as LW , Marcus as CF , Samuel Chukwu as RW to form trident . I hope AC Milan can get marcus but it seems the chance now are PSG 50% , AC Milan 30% , RB Leipzig 20% . I will give 2 thumb if furlani & moncada can get marcus to AC Milan

      1. Yeah and PSG has a recent trend of signing players represented by Jorge Mendes, because of the manager Luis Campos who is close to him. I think we have a real chance here.

    1. Exactly. Why would you offer a starting spot to Giroud’s backup backup? He hasn’t shown much at club level either.
He’s 25, so it’s not like we’re expecting him to explode now.
To only upside is that he can play on the wing as well, but so can Origi and Rebic…
I would rather go for a younger striker who at least has margin for growth.

    2. I doubt anyone can be as bad as Origi but still… I’m not convinced splashing out 5M€/y on this unproven guy with not that great stats is the way to go. Unless he’ll score 5-10 goals as Giroud’s backup and they’re going to sell him next summer for profit.

Prove me wrong, Mr.Thuram but I don’t think you’re worth the money.

  2. I’m not an know it all guy about football players, BUT i only saw this guy in the last world cup. As a substitute. I don’t recall any movement from him when i would have said yeah man, this guy has something. Checked transfermarkt for his stats, averages around 10 goals per season in the league.. and he is still hesitating.. i don’t have a good feeling about this guy.

  3. What I like about all this is what you guy’s are missing AND that is the focus on physicality, strong fast attack built around Leao, that is modern football and for ONCE we are keeping up!!!
