GdS: Two metres tall and from €1.7m to €25m – the background on Milan’s latest target

By Oliver Fisher -

The name of Sasa Kalajdzic has ended up on AC Milan’s list of potential targets for the summer, and La Gazzetta dello Sport have provided some background information on the Austrian.

The source reports that several clubs have circled his name in red including AC Milan, and the 23-year-old has been offered to the Rossoneri by his agents. However, at the moment he is not a priority though Maldini and Massara are still looking for a striker and he could represent an opportunity later on.

Kalajdzic started his senior career as a 16-year-old at Donaufeld reserves, and used to train with the reserves and then with the first team after that. When finally called upon he scored some goals late in the season and earned a call from Admira Wacker, making his debut at the age of 20 in the Austrian league back in 2017, scoring 12 goals in two seasons before Stuttgart called.

Saša immediately accepted the idea of a move to the Bundesliga and a deal worth €1.7m was completed, but today he is worth €25m. If he were to arrive in Serie A he would immediately be the tallest player in the league at 2m, overtaking Simy (1.98) who is part of the just-relegated Crotone.

He holds the European ‘record’ for headed goals scored in the ‘top 5’ European leagues with 8. He is the “big man” who holds the ball up, and in his career he has been used as a centre-back, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, number 10 and finally striker. This year he has produced 6 assists which shows he is not just a finisher, possessing vision, passing and a good first touch.

Comparisons to Peter Crouch may seem unglamorous, but Kalajdzic has never snubbed them: “He played 40 games for England, he is an example.” With goals and assists, he intrigues several big names and maybe Milan too.
