GdS: Two defensive targets and two different formulas – Milan’s thoughts

By Isak Möller -

The transfer window is nearing its end and AC Milan are yet to reinforce the defensive department. There could be some movement in the final days, though, with two players currently on their radar.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have seemingly narrowed their pursuit down to two players: Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea) and Malick Thiaw (Schalke 04). Both are ready to leave and Milan are evaluating the situation.

As reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport, Chalobah would arrive on a €3m paid loan and possibly with a buy-out option. Thiaw, on the other hand, would arrive on a permanent basis for a figure of €6-7m.

Milan are currently making their evaluation: Chalobah is more experienced and more ready, but keeping him for the future is uncertain. Thiaw would be a name for the future, learning from Kalulu, Tomori and Kjaer, as well as making a few appearances here and there.

Both solutions are tempting to Milan and it remains to be seen what decision they will make.

  1. I would trust Gabbia over these 2 profiles. The lack of decent Italian born players in Milans ranks is a concern.

    1. I think if Pioli and M&M thought Gabbia was ready we wouldn’t be looking. Gabbia needs to be loaned out to gain more experience. At best he’s an average defender. If he wasn’t Italian nobody would care. Best players should play regardless of nationality.
