AC Milan remain interested in signing Samuel Chukwueze and the words of the Villarreal president’s son have boosted their pursuit, a report claims.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport recalls the comments from Fernando Roig Negueroles – the son of the President of Villarreal and member of the board of directors – who spoke to AS about the winger.
“Samuel Chukwueze is an amazing guy who has been with us for many years. It is true that he hopes to play for a big club in Europe or the Premier League, and if that option were to arise, we would sit down and negotiate,” he said.
“But it will be necessary to see if there will be any advantageous offers for the three parties. No offers have arrived yet and Samuel still has one year left on his contract. What we are clear about is that if a good proposal does not arrive, he will continue with us.”
Villarreal are willing to sell Chukwueze whose contract expires in June 2024 but they expect fair value for his talent, which is around €25m. It is a high figure for a player who could be available for nothing next summer, but an auction could get underway given Real Madrid are also interested.
At the moment Chukwueze is preferred to Christian Pulisic by Milan. The Nigeria international is coming off a season in which he scored scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions, and the management hope he could form a rapid attacking trident with Rafael Leao and Marcus Thuram.
Milan had meetings with his entourage last week and other meetings will follow. The big threat for the Rossoneri could come from the Premier League, where practically any club can fork out €25m for a player.
