Santiago Gimenez’s recovery has taken much longer than expected. What initially seemed like a few weeks’ absence turned into a month and a half. Now, AC Milan have approved surgery.
When he first went off injured against Atalanta, there were a number of contrasting reports about his recovery. Some believed he would be out for a week or two, whilst Mexican reports suggested that he would be facing almost a month and a half out.

Now, after a month and a half, he is still not back in action for Milan. In fact, he faces another few months out. Reports this morning suggested that he would be back in two months, but it could be closer to three if reports from Mexico are to be believed again.
Gimenez’s specialist
The best timeframe will be available tomorrow, after his surgery with renowned ankle specialist Gino Kerkhoffs in the Netherlands, as MilanNews reports. Right now, it is only estimates based on the idea of what surgery could show. Tomorrow, the picture will be clearer, with an almost exact timeline available.
Either way, it means that the Rossoneri will almost definitely need some cover brought in in January, and movement towards Niclas Fullkrug has been accelerated after the news of surgery for Gimenez. Whether the Mexican could leave too, remains to be seen.
Is there any way to reclaim Camarda from his loan. I know he hasn’t been great for Leece but he’s been decent for Milan
I read another poster indicate that Lecce would have to agree to it and it wouldn’t be free.
Lecce has an option to buy at 3 mil while we have retained a buyback option set at 4 mil so if we were to bring him back I’m sure Lecce would want to be compensated with 1 mil as they are basically guaranteed that sum come summer.
And we still have no word on what the injury is. Just “surgery on ankle”. Crazy. Also, he’s not going anywhere folks. Nobody is going to buy a striker in January who is facing 1-2 months (wild guess) out with an ankle injury. January transfers are usually of the “we need help immediately” type. More reason for someone like Fullkrug, who will arrive on loan initially versus some kind of big transfer, as we won’t be seeing any money for Gimenez until at least July.
And probably not even July, probably August, as we will have to wait for his World Cup performances. So let’s hope he has a decent WC.
I agree both with your injury assessment and that Gimenez will stay at the very least until the summer but I also just answered that we would have to pay Lecce something to get Camarda back but it could also be that the suggestion was instead of bringing in Fullkrug.
Camarda should be in Serie B. Period. He shouldn’t be shouldering the burden of a relegation battler or a title race.
