Giornale: Conte willing to make concessions to join Milan amid cries from fans

By Oliver Fisher -

There continues to be a vocal section of the AC Milan fan base who want Antonio Conte to be the next head coach, and he would be willing to alter his usual demands to join the project.

That is according to this morning’s edition of Il Giornale (via MilanNews) who make reference to the fact that there is a large portion of the Milan supporter base who believe that Conte is the right man to take over from Stefano Pioli at the end of the season.

However, at the moment the Rossoneri management do not seem interested in the idea of hiring because he does not fall within the parameters of what they are looking for, i.e. a coach good at developing young players and working within a budget.

Despite this, the paper claim that Conte is not asking for a huge salary or expensive purchases from his next clubs. These are clichés, also denied by the Conte himself who confided to a friend that he ‘needs to get excited’ by the next project he puts his name to.

In addition to Conte, another manager who could satisfy Milan fans is Roberto De Zerbi, former Milan academy player and current Brighton manager. However, he has a release clause of €15m and other clubs are taking a look at him.

  1. We only have 2 choices. Either we recruit someone that’s a proven winner (like Conte or the Klopp dream) or someone that’s fresh, exciting, and uprising (Motta, De Zerbi).

    Nopetegui, Dontsesca don’t fit both.

  2. they have started scouting for cheap coaches and players and they want us to compete with inter Milan next season with their amateur coaches

  3. I’m actually indifferent towards anyone who would be our coach for next season, be it Lopetegui, Motta, Conte, De Zerbi, Klopp, Guardiola, or even if Pioli is allowed to finish his term.

Personally, I think the amount of hate is a bit strong for this one, although I meant, of course his appointment wouldn’t excite at all and could be seen as lacking ambition whatsoever. But, it is always unfair to judge things before we see how that unfolds. I’ve been an ardent supporter of Pioli (who was also rejected himself) througout his tenure until this season – where I think he had hit the ceiling and couldn’t do much more to elevate us to the ‘next’ level.

I also used to think that Conte would be a badddd idea because he’s just a poisoned chalice IMHO – and not worth the risk. But, again, at this stage, I’m now indifferent. I just wanna see how this turns out. Aren’t these Cardinale’s fans last season asking us all to ‘trust the process’ and stating things like ‘they can’t get rich by destroying us, their asset’.

So, yeah. Hopefully, the next coach would be an instant hit with us, because you just don’t know how fickle some of our fans are. Good luck to us all.

    1. 1. Having hit a certain ceiling with Pioli, it is critical to hire a coach who elevates this team beyond that level.

      2. Conte isn’t a poisoned chalice at all. Conte builds a backbone that the current Inter and Juve are built on. He doesn’t need to stay beyond 2 years either. And then whoever takes over after Conte can build on his foundation.

      1. Our team needs to win some trophy, that’s all. It makes the youngster to get used to win and win. That’s all we need and Conte can do this. He proved many times to be always a winner. He made new stars in Italy’s national team and many clubs. This name will make us able to sign the bigger-name players.
I ever supported Pioli and even thought he made a better tactic over Klopp in the games we lost in UCL. But now it is a time to change. Paoli seems disable to give us better things.
I am not about De Zerbi. He is good with a small team that the fans say OK when losing to Man U or Reds or even Spurs but that’s not us. Also the other names in media including nopetegui in this case.
Why not Roberto Mancini? I think he is free now.

  4. How many foreign coaches have succeeded at Milan? Im seriously asking. Milan is a very ‘Italian” club – the coach needs to be in lock step with the culture around this club and I feel Conte wants it more than anyone of the other coaches – I think he can become our Mister Milan for a long time ……

  5. Froza milan sempre milan i really the idea conte be make feel milan 2007 been awhile we see the real master milan ..comrades yemi orungbamila Global citizen member africa

  6. Let’s not forget that Pioli has finished in champions league position 4 times in his tenure. Milan wallowed in mid table mediocrity for 10 years before hand. Firing Pioli is a knee jerk reaction. Maybe the replacement will be better, maybe not. Hard to beat his record.

    1. So they should keep pioli and continue on this spiral of bad, stagnant football and not winning trophies.

Or is Milan now a top 4 position and insha Allah only club??
