Giroud and Theo finish second as Argentina defeat France in dramatic final

It was a very dramatic final, but Leo Messi and Argentina secured the trophy in the end. AC Milan duo Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez thus came away with a silver medal each from the tournament.

Argentina looked to be in control of the final, leading 2-0, but then conceded two quick goals late in the second half, courtesy of Kylian Mbappe. It then looked like Messi had secured it, but Mbappe stepped up again to make it 3-3.

In the shootout, Argentina eventually prevailed and thus secured the win. Giroud and Hernandez will feel disappointed as they didn’t have a very good final, but they did really well for France throughout the tournament.

Giroud scored four goals and Hernandez bagged a goal as well as two assists. They will now have a well-deserved vacation before returning to Italy for the resumption of the season, starting with the Salernitana clash on January 4.
