Di Marzio: Guardiola wants Milan star at Man City after Chelsea’s €70-80m bid

AC Milan may have to fight off interest from two Premier League sides if they are to keep Rafael Leao at the club, according to a report.

Yesterday, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky spoke on the Football Daily broadcast (via MilanNews) and reported the Chelsea decided to offer €70-80m for Leao right at the end of the window. Milan’s response was clear: there was no time to find a replacement and to complete such a big negotiation, but the Blues remain keen.

Now, Di Marzio (via Manchester Evening News) is also claiming that Pep Guardiola is keen on signing Leao given that they did not really sign a direct replacement for Raheem Sterling, who ironically left for Chelsea.

The Serie A MVP of last season is very much in demand after a campaign in which he racked up 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, and it is perhaps no surprise to learn of the gathering interest.

Milan meanwhile must work on renewing his contract which expires in June 2024, given the risk of reaching the end of the current season just one year from the deadline if he does not extend.
