Di Marzio: Guardiola wants Milan star at Man City after Chelsea’s €70-80m bid

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan may have to fight off interest from two Premier League sides if they are to keep Rafael Leao at the club, according to a report.

Yesterday, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky spoke on the Football Daily broadcast (via MilanNews) and reported the Chelsea decided to offer €70-80m for Leao right at the end of the window. Milan’s response was clear: there was no time to find a replacement and to complete such a big negotiation, but the Blues remain keen.

Now, Di Marzio (via Manchester Evening News) is also claiming that Pep Guardiola is keen on signing Leao given that they did not really sign a direct replacement for Raheem Sterling, who ironically left for Chelsea.

The Serie A MVP of last season is very much in demand after a campaign in which he racked up 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, and it is perhaps no surprise to learn of the gathering interest.

Milan meanwhile must work on renewing his contract which expires in June 2024, given the risk of reaching the end of the current season just one year from the deadline if he does not extend.

  1. Didn’t they sign Sterling’s direct replacement last summer, when they splashed 100 mil on Jack Grealish ?
Jorge Mendes is very good at his job. Now he is pushing the made up narrative that Pep wants Leao.
Anyone that has ever seen the way Pep wants his team to move on the field, pass the ball around quickly, does it seem that Leao would fit his style of play?

  2. With the way leao sprints and pep sets up I don’t see him settling in…..leao is young there is always room for improvement but I just don’t see him exploding in fast paced premier league…..but 100m plus and he is all yours……after all these agents have few tricks up their sleeves to stay in news

  3. 70-80mil + Bernardo Silva would be great. Always been a dream signing. Would bring an instant depth and experience to get to the next level Milan needed. He also can easily fit into 3 roles / solutions.

  4. Contract situation needs to be resolved before winter window starts.. or we sell Leao to whoever bids the highest and get Mudryk and a RW. BTW.. We should stay faar away from Ziyech. Dude has just gotten so baad, it hurts to watch him.

  5. They have Foden and Grealish, and there’s no way they can offload the latter or would offload the former – I don’t think they need another one, just classic paper talk

  6. The whole story around Chelsea offer and ManCity interest make little sense.
Chelsea already spent close to 50 mil in the early stages of the transfer window on a LW when they bought Raheem Sterling. Why would they buy another LW especially in the last days of the window. Plus they know they would be buying Milan’s best player and Milan would need time to find a replacement. Transfers of that size don’t happen in a day or 2.
I think Leao will resign with Milan and this is just a game his agent is playing thru the media to pressure Milan into giving Leao the money they want
