Guardiola insists Man City ‘must prevent’ the same struggles Milan have endured

By Oliver Fisher -

Having clearly victorious from the Manchester derby with City, Pep Guardiola at the end of the match decided to throw a bit of shade towards AC Milan.

The Spanish coach wanted to underline the importance of stability at high levels for a club like City, using the Rossoneri as an example of a team that have perhaps not achieved that given their relative struggles of the last decade.

“I remember the Milan of Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello, who won in the Champions League,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

“Then they no longer played and won in Europe, for eight or nine years, yet when I was little Sacchi’s Milan was the team that everyone admired in the world. We must prevent this from happening. The greatest success for a club is stability, always staying on top.”

Of course, it must be remembered that Milan have indeed had their struggles on the field since winning their last Champions League in 2007 and their last league title in 2011, but they have forged a path back to competing for trophies based around a completely different strategy to City.

Sheikh Mansur bin Zayd Al Nahyan has been at the helm of Manchester City for over 13 years and during that time he has spent £1.8bn since taking over and they are yet to win the Champions League (via TalkSport).
