MN: Giroud alone not enough – Hojlund and four Ligue 1 strikers on Milan’s wish list

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are closing in on being able to announce the renewal of Olivier Giroud but the expectation is that the signing of another striker will follow in the summer, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, Milan and Giroud have a verbal agreement on the basis of a one-year extension at €3.5m net for next season, and that will become an official one in the coming days when he signs his contract.

However, just Giroud is not enough while the doubts about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future persist, because neither Divock Origi nor Ante Rebic are giving guarantees both from a scoring point of view and from a physical point of view given their injury problems.

Milan are therefore in the market for a new, younger centre-forward who can take the baton from the Frenchman, but they cannot afford huge investments which is why they must carefully monitor profiles from abroad.

The ‘ideal’ option as per the source would be Rasmus Hojlund who is having an excellent first season with Atalanta (8 goals this season) and has exploded onto the international scene with Denmark (5 goals in his last 2 games). His asking price is about €50m.

The other interesting options all play in Ligue 1: Jonathan David from Lille, Folarin Balogun from Stade Reims (on loan from Arsenal), Elye Wahi from Montpellier and Terem Moffi from Nice (on loan from Lorient).

There are names and alternatives and a lot will depend on qualification to the next Champions League, as well as the possible renewal of Rafael Leao and the potential sales of those with big salaries such as Rebic and Origi.
