The story of Modric mentoring the young midfielders is a fascinating example for an analytical essay, where one could explore the role of mentorship in sports or the impact of experience on team development.
Such topics are often chosen by students who are passionate about football but don’t always have enough time for academic assignments due to frequent matches or watching games. Samuele Ricci and Ardon Jashari were both brought to the club in the summer, one at the start of the window and the other as it was coming to its end. Formerly, both played in deeper positions, Ricci with Torino and the Swiss with Club Brugge.
Despite this, like Modric, they have not been limited to one position. Ricci has experience playing further forward, and the Italian has been trusted to play in this role, alongside Modric, this season. However, with Adrien Rabiot returning, he is likely to return to the bench.
For Jashari, his time in a more advanced role came in a two-man midfield, where he acted as a mezzala – a role which Modric has certainly featured in before. A tireless runner with great technical abilities and a fantastic footballing mind.
The duo have been said to be mentored, almost, by the Croatian, who is eager to share his knowledge. Of course, he did not join the Rossoneri to mentor. Nevertheless, if he wants to win, he needs to improve those around him, too.
So far, it seems that Jashari will be the one to learn his deeper traits. How to shield the defence, control the tempo and progress the ball. For Ricci, though, it seems he will be moved into a more advanced role.
Perhaps, it could even be a case of playing them together in a pivot, with an attacking option ahead of them, or even allowing Rabiot a bit more freedom in the attacking half, where he is more than capable of operating.
Their futures
In terms of the mentor, it is unknown whether Modric will remain at the club past the summer. The Diavolo, per reports, have already made up their mind; they want him to stay. However, the midfielder wants to decide after the season is completed.
His family will be considered, as will his football; after all, a big reason for staying at this level was for the World Cup. We must see, no one is rushing anything. Whether that is the teacher, the students, or the school where all are housed.
