Loftus-Cheek and Fonseca

MN: How Milan might lineup vs. Red Star after Fonseca’s press conference hints

AC Milan host Red Star Belgrade tomorrow night and the lineup can be slightly worked out with information from Paulo Fonseca’s press conference.

Despite the loss against Atalanta, Fonseca has repeated that he was impressed by the performance, feeling that his side’s shortcoming was due to officiating rather than a systematic or personnel error. So for this reason, wholesale changes should not be predicted, as Milan News states.

We know that Christian Pulisic will be absent, and this will force a change as Fonseca admitted.

Starting in defence, the Portuguese head coach revealed that there will be ‘no changes’ in central defence in his press conference, so Matteo Gabbia and Malick Thiaw will sit in front of Mike Maignan with Emerson Royal and Theo Hernandez flanking.

It will not come as a surprise that Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders will start in midfield, but they will be joined by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as was once again confirmed by Fonseca who can bring different things to the Milan team.

On the wings, Samuel Chukwueze should return – given he is a more offensive option – and on the left, we will see Rafael Leao with Noah Okafor suffering from a back problem. Alvaro Morata once again leads the line.

  1. Or you could change formation to something that suits the squad and players available.
4231 barely suits the squad to begin with and really doesn’t if Pulisic is not fit to play CAM.
