One of the most contentious issues that the AC Milan management will have to grapple with over the coming weeks is the renewal of Rafael Leao, and some calculations have emerged.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (via MilanNews) have put some numbers out there as an indicator regarding how much Milan would have to pay as a total sum if they were to renew Leao’s deal.

Leao’s requests are €7m net per season for a five-year deal but it cannot be excluded that an agreement can also be found halfway, at around €6m therefore. The Rossoneri would benefit from the Growth Decree tax relief scheme, but would pay about €45-50m over the five years on salary.
However, to this the compensation owed to Sporting CP must be added, with the paper reporting that around €15m is owed for a total that is around €60-65m therefore.
Milan would be left with a dilemma: either they pay what is required to hold on to a top player or they would be forced to look into selling him, while it is mentioned that the Charles De Ketelaere operation will not exceed €50m when including fee and gross salary.
Maldini have already said that the Sporting’s fine was nothing to do with Milan. So it’s clear that Milan won’t take part in the compensation and such. Already a complex and complicated negotiation. Adding the Mendes variable to the equation..
Mendes demands a signing bonus too. And we’re talking about several millions there too.
Salary shouldn’t exceed 5mill, and to factor compensation to Lisbon plus a 7mill salary asking is pure greed. If that’s the demand, let’s cash in while we can. On no account should negotiation drag till midweek of December.
Sell in Jan. Let the new team sort out the all the mess. Leao is a messy type of player when it comes to contracts. Milan is better off investing the 80-100M in players that are focused and disciplined.
