AC Milan Inter Spurs Porto

GdS: Milano back with Europe’s elite as Inter follow the Rossoneri’s lead identically

It has been a long time coming, but AC Milan and Inter are both in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and there is the possibility of a derby to come.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, there are two Serie A teams in the final eight of the top European club competition while waiting for Napoli tonight who have a 2-0 first leg lead, and Italy have not had three teams in the quarter-finals of the Champions League since 2006.

Last night Inter followed Milan’s lead to a tee by drawing 0-0 away from home in the second leg after winning 1-0 at San Siro in what some are suggesting is a return to being ‘catenacciari‘, but in reality both Milanese clubs defended their lead with heart and organisation, forced to protect themselves due to the qualities of their opponents.

The two sides each had to rely on their goalkeepers as Mike Maignan denied Harry Kane in Spurs while Andre Onana made a brilliant stop during injury time to tip a shot onto the post, yet Milan and Inter both left the homes of Tottenham and Porto undefeated without feeling like they had obtained an undeserved result.

Simone Inzaghi led Inter to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2011 while for Stefano Pioli’s side it is the first time since 2012, with European football bringing a nice release given the domestic struggles of both sides.

  1. Difference is we may have left the tie winning in London 3-0 while Inter could have left Porto losing 2-0.
Foster pulled off saves and posts saving there blushes.
