Reports: Inter tried late Joao Felix hijack but received firm rejection – the background

Inter made a late attempt to try and get Joao Felix from Chelsea but he had already made his mind up about where he wanted to go, reports claim.

There is a lot of excitement among Milan fans after the January transfer window, with five new signings having arrived and three of them on deadline day. One of them was Joao Felix, who already has an impressive CV having played for the likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

His debut came yesterday evening in the quarter-final of the Coppa Italia against Roma and it could hardly have gone much better. Less than 15 minutes after coming on, he collected a through ball from another new signing in Santiago Gimenez and chipped over the keeper for his first goal.

Things could have been different though, as MilanNews report that Inter made a last-minute attempt for the Portuguese. However, they received a firm rejection from both the club and the player.

This was not only because the negotiations between Milan and Chelsea were already well underway and advancing quickly, but also because the forward only wanted to join the Rossoneri.

Calciomercato.com confirm this news, stating that Ausilio had spoken to Jorge Mendes and asked for time so he could free a spot in the squad, even though Milan had move ‘quick.

Arnautovic and Correa did not want to listen to any offers that arrived though, and Inter found themselves facing the same problem they have before.

      1. Pretty sure we also gave them a fairly big sum of money on top of it but Coco was actually deemed a huge talent back in the early days of his career and if I remember correctly he was monikered as a new “Maldini” but just never mounted the expectations.

Another great deal we did with them was the Pirlo deal I think we gave them a few players including Thomas Helveg who we even lent back for 2 seasons or something if I remember correctly.

        1. Apparently there was another backstory to this….it was Moggi who mentioned Coco as a good player one day when he was doing some scouting work. Upon realizing Inter scouts were also there to watch the player, he mentioned aloud that Coco was a very good player making sure Inter scouts heard him. Moggi thought that Coco wasn’t very good but he also said he knew Inter scouts were terrible and fed off of the work he and other proper scouts would do. So they ended up getting Coco based on him pretending he liked Coco lol 😂😂😂
I will always thank Inter for Seedorf 😁

          1. No, Moggi misled Inter’s scouts signing “talented” Cyrril Domoraud instead of signing Zidane of Marseilles. That’s the story.

          2. Not really sure how that could have panned out that way as Coco actually had played for us for a few years before being skipped out but maybe I just have a sh!tty memory on this deal.

          3. Coco was great, he had mental issues, but as a footballer he was great, sounds like you weren’t around to even see him, Seedorf was the one deemed as subpar, Coco made the trip with us to the World Cup and was the starting LWB.

          4. @Ronin you sure it was that guy. I seem to have recall Coco for some reason. I’ll have to dig up that interview though. It’s a long time ago so I stand corrected. But anyway, Inter..smh … billions spent by Moratti, best striker in the world and still could win anything until Calciopoli

          5. @Ronin

That makes total sense as it would explain why Moggi would do that in the first place, as Juventus had an interest in Zidane, not Coco.

          6. @Ronin yes you are absolutely correct. I thought it was Coco for some reason
            Found this online:

“Back in 1999, Luciano Moggi, Juve’s historically famous and controversial former director, travelled to watch a player he had his eye on with Marseilles. Don Luciano noticed that in the stands also at the game was an Inter scout.

Moggi spoke at a high volume to get the Inter scout’s attention about the significant quality of Cyril Domoraud, an Ivorian defender for Marseilles. The thing is, Moggi had no interest in Domoraud. The Inter scout, thinking that Moggi was at the game scouting Cyril, returned to Milan and recommended that he be purchased (to stop a rival from getting stronger).

Shortly thereafter, Domoraud transferred to Inter and promptly flopped. Luciano, I imagine, lit a big cigar and laughed.”

            LMAO 🤣🤣🤣

          1. I cant really remember his injury woes at this point but I do nevertheless know he was a big talent and probably also why some pundits called him a new Maldini.

A different player from roughly the same era that I really liked when he came through but also had his career hampered by injuries was Guglielminpietro.

          1. Maybe you are right, I just gave his wikipedia and transfermarkt pages a look and the only info i could find was a question mark on transfermarkt in regard of his move so maybe he wasn’t even swapped or sold to them.

          2. Dude, respect to you guys for remembering Guly full name lol. I swear there aren’t that many fans nowadays who knows the name of Guglielminpietro. IIRC he won us the 1999 scudetto with his goal againts Venezia

          3. Thanks, there has been so many greats or potential greats going through the club over the years and another one I quite liked as a teenager even though he played for us for an even shorter time was Raducioiu but nevertheless had to look up the correct spelling of that name though 😀

Guly did indeed have an impact while with us and certainly shouldn’t be forgotten for his contributions for us.

    1. 😀 I know you are kidding here but you do realize that Barella was an Inter fan from childhood so even when he played for Cagliari it was never in the cards to ever happen had we offered the same deal for him as Inter did.

    1. Still one game, we can’t said that Milan already better. As you know sometimes Milan waste a point when faca a weaker team. Hope it will change, lets hope Felix and Gimenez have a big impact and sottil & bondo useful for subs

      1. You need to take that attitude somewhere else, you want to cry about everything go support Manchester United. They will give you endless drama to cry about .

        1. Calm down. It’s 1. a joke, and 2. it’s statistically likely given how our season has gone. It’s not what I hope for. And you are not the speech police or the owner of this website.

  2. Inter are always in the habit of hijacking Milan prospects. Last season, they hijacked Fratessi and Thuram at the dying moments from Milan. The city rivalry is indeed unhealthy.
