Sky: All internationals back at Milanello bar one as preparation for Bologna game continues

By Oliver Fisher -

Today is the day of return for almost all members of the AC Milan squad as they prepare for the crucial match against Bologna on Monday.

According to Sky (via SempreMilan.it), Stefano Pioli welcomed back all the returning internationals except Ismael Bennacer. The Algerian will return to Milan tomorrow and will begin training then. Also present was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who took a plane early yesterday morning to show up at the training ground as soon as possible after his disappointment with Sweden.

Regarding the rest, Alessandro Florenzi had already returned after knee swelling while Sandro Tonali was there today. Given Italy’s qualification loss to North Macedonia, Pioli will have to try to restore calm in view of Monday evening.

There were positives for Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud with France. The former made his debut as a starter and kept a clean sheet while Giroud scored in both matches, and Theo Hernandez made history with France after five appearances. With one goal and four assists, no player has amassed so many goal contributions after five games for Les Bleus since Michael Platini.

  1. Deschamps lets him play his style, higher on the pitch like a transition midfielder, if you remember a week or so ago after a game Pioli said he and Theo had talked earlier and had OKed Theo to attack, JUST do not do it at your/our expense by negleting your defensive responsibilties. It will be interesing to see his role against Bologna. Just as a sidebar here, was sad and worried when Donnarumma left, was I ever wrong, Mike has really been good, as well as Giroud, all peaking at the right time. Theo —Il Gazzella
