MN: Investcorp have Man City-style investment in youth sector planned – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

More information regarding Investcorp’s plans for AC Milan continue to emerge as the days pass and now a report has outlined their strategy for investing in youth.

According to MilanNews, the negotiation between Investcorp – who have the backing of the UAE sovereign fund Mubadala – and Elliott Management is moving quickly towards being completed. In addition to making money available for the improvement of the team, the construction of the new stadium and the promotion of the club’s brand around the world, they have long-term plans.

Confirmations have arrived regarding Investcorp’s will to spend on strengthening of the structures linked to the youth sector. The Milanello training centre and Milan Lab are facilities used now but they are far behind that of Europe’s elite and similar set-ups in North America.

The desire of the Bahrain-based fund therefore is similar to what happened at Manchester City in 2011. After two years of Mansour’s presidency, the club chose to develop the historic Platt Lane which was inaugurated in 2014 at the presentation of the City Football Academy, today the headquarters of all the youth teams and the women’s team.

These investments would come later though, because they are not judged as a priority in sports planning. Asset improvements are a source of certain capital gain for a new property but it is also seen as a necessary and inevitable evolution for Milan as a club.

    1. Chelsea’s youth system is just now starting to have players coming through. It would be a project that would take 15-20 years to start bearing results.

Barca started La Masia when Johan Cruyff took charge in the early 80’s but didnt really get that much coming through until the early 2000’s when xavi, Iniesta and co came through.

Youth development takes time, be patient.

      1. Agree,, it’s always good to invest in Youth Sector even if immediate effect won’t be possible…
Plus, our current Primavera is on decline mode.. so it’s a bit worrying
