Vincenzo Italiano is the man AC Milan want as their next head coach, but Thiago Motta has reportedly emerged as an alternative.
Tare was initially believed to be close to joining Milan last month after two meetings with CEO Giorgio Furlani, before things went quiet as they had done with Fabio Paratici prior. However, the Rossoneri leadership seem to have accelerated towards the Albanian.

While planning the transfer business that must be done when the window reopens to fix an under-performing squad, Tare will also be thinking about who should replace Sergio Conceicao as the head coach for 2025-26 and beyond.
Manuele Baiocchini spoke on Sky live outside Milanello about Milan’s planning for the future, with the imminent announcement of Igli Tare as the new sporting director. MilanNews relayed his comments.
“Tare is the choice of the owners. Giorgio Furlani is out of Italy these days for institutional commitments, he will return on Friday and then every day could be the right one to make the new sporting director official,” he said.
“The first of Tare’s objectives will be to find a coach. The objective is Vincenzo Italiano. Bologna, however, do not want to lose him: right now the rossoblu management is meeting with the agents of the Coppa Italia-winning coach to propose an extension (currently expiring in 2026) and a pay rise.
“Milan are waiting and waiting: if Italiano does not find an agreement for the future, then they will rush in, otherwise they will have to find an alternative for the bench. Perhaps names free from constraints, like Allegri or Thiago Motta. Now, however, Italiano is in pole position for Milan.”
I believe that neither Italiano nor Motta are ready to take over Milan. I think they should apply for either the Napoli or the Roma positions.
We’ll be reading a lot about potential candidates. I agree with you that neither is good to take over. I’d rather have Sarri. But we’ll have to wait and see I guess.
What do you think of De Zerbi or Faroli?
If we want results now, then Sarri or Conte would be the best options IMO. If we want to start building for the future, then yes, RDZ or Faroli would be a very good fit.

I would sell Theo, RLC, Emerson, Terracciano, Thiaw, Chukwueze, Okafor and the 40M bonus we are getting from loans to raise the funds… if we can use this money and Gerry can cover the losses from this season, we should be fine…
we need 2 CB, vice-LB, CM/CDM and subs for Puli and Leao
Zappacosta, Coppola and Ricci are a must imo… due to lack of Italians, their price vs quality… I just think they are exact profiles we need. now the other CB needs to be quality and Comuzzo would be great but if Hancko (basically none due to no Europe tournament) or some other CB can be enticed all the better…
Now without Europe the attackers will be harder… we might need to get older players
I think that either can guarantee top 4 easily while promoting the youth which we need to be sustainability. They both sound exciting instead of these big money coach. Faroli is a bit naive and have learned from his season at Ajax this year. I’m surprised nobody mentioned him at Milan yet.

Funny but Gattuso wasn’t that bad considering what he had to work with. Somewhow we had the best ‘non-bus’ defense in Europe and last minute winner goals under Rhino’s management. He had limited budget, and a team bought by the Chinese owners and Montella.

I like Motta and Italiano But here is my problem with all of these newer type coaches. They all like to press high. What is the current squad uniformly bad at doing? Laeo always offers a relief valve against the press. Pavlovic and Tonori are too undisciplined to play a high line, and neither Reijnders, or Fofana is a midfield boss. And without a doubt no one except for maybe Pulisic thinks fast enough to make the runs and passes necessary after winning the ball back on the press. Most of our guys are pass backward types. So yes both Motta and Italiano have succeeded with high pressing teams…but they had the talent to do this. If either come to Milan they would either have to teach a bunker and counter style (which they are unfamiliar with), or they are going to have to get rid of half the squad. Maybe that will work, but it’s a huge risk.
This, Milan are one of the worst pressing teams in the world! They also can’t switch the field to save their lives…

Retain Sergio Conceicao. Let him continue his job and get him players that suit his styles. Changing coach isn’t the best IMO. What if the coach we hired didn’t perform or deliver by December. Then, we’ll be planning to sack and bring another one.
