With Luka Modric injured, a lot of responsibility fell on the shoulders of Jashari. However, his first game against Sassuolo did not go as hoped; he noticeably struggled through the game and the Italian papers were certainly not too kind with their ratings.
Jashari’s critics vocal
Corriere dello Sport, perhaps prematurely, have suggested that the signing already needs to be re-evaluated. The Swiss midfielder, as they write, is a problem. What should’ve been a relaunch and the start of the future instead was 90 minutes of needing the present.
He hasn’t proven to be up to the Rossoneri’s standards in his rare minutes this season and whilst it was always going to be tough to replace Modric, he didn’t show signs of being able to against Sassuolo.
Of course, it would be unfair to suggest that the performance was on him. After all, he is not Modric and he cannot be judged for that. Unless you spend the big, big bucks, you will struggle to find a player on the same level, if you even can.
He made a costly error for the first goal of the game and he struggled to recover after that. Considering he has barely played this season, though, there will obviously be some rust to him. It is undeniable that he needs time and support, but whether he will get that is another thing entirely.
