Jeers and dejection: Milan suffer another blow as season takes toxic turn

Things at AC Milan are all too bleak at present and with the draw to Genoa at the weekend, it could be suggested that the season is over.

Despite the season not even being halfway through, Milan sit in a perilous position. Any suggestions about a Scudetto push were, unfortunately, laughable way before the weekend and you could even suggest before the loss to Atalanta.

Should you wish to look at those remaining in the Serie A title race, you can check the odds with 1Win Korea – we would strongly advise against looking at the Rossoneri’s odds, unfortunately…

In fact, it was not just hopes of a Scudetto push that died, but also hopes of a Champions League spot with the result in Bergamo. However, it surely couldn’t get any worse than that, but it feels like it has with this weekend’s result.

Let’s re-set the scene: 125 years of Milan, a celebration of the club and its legends at San Siro in a new kit. In other words, a huge amount of public attention towards the club and a chance to restart things, attempting to bring fans back on side.

A 0-0 is not the way to do that and now the Diavolo feels like a club torn, even if everyone has a shared goal.

As fans, the club should be doing better, a club of Milan’s status should be aiming higher, being higher, performing better (in more ways than one) and ultimately, together. However, this could not be further from the reality.

The management believes that things are on the right track and it was only recently when Geoffrey Moncada stated that this was a group that could deliver a Scudetto. Unfortunately for him, his words lose meaning with each passing week at the moment because Scudetto-winning performances are not being displayed, full stop, let alone regularly.

The split then goes further. Views on the club differ, which is going to happen, but this has now boiled over to a point where the management avoided the criticism of the fans after the protests at San Siro and planned protests at the celebration event on Monday evening.

It is an issue which will only worsen without a raised level of ambition and some admission of guilt and the longer that both parties fail to see eye to eye, the longer Milan will suffer.

Ultimately, the club are suffering enough as it is, but with the events of the past few days, partnered with Fonseca’s words highlighting the issues in his squad, it feels like the season is already over and a place in Europe can all but be forgotten about.
