Pierre Kalulu was called into action last night as Davide Calabria couldn’t make the game due to an injury. And the Frenchman, following a successful international spell with France’s U21 side, didn’t exactly disappoint.
In fact, he did really well on the right-hand side of the pitch and was awarded a 6/10 in our ratings, the highest anyone got of the Milan players. He looked confident and wasn’t afraid to push forward, as we saw in the average position graphic.
As highlighted by MilanNews, Kalulu always seems to be ready even when he hasn’t played for some time. His defensive attributes, commitment and his crossing all make him a very good option for the RB spot and we saw that against Spezia (assist for Maldini).
Then there is the obvious trait, namely his versatility. He can play pretty much anywhere in the defence and Pioli has made use of this in the past. In short, as the report concludes, the decision to sign him from Lyon’s youth academy was the right one.
And with the game against Atletico Madrid up next, Pioli is relieved to know that he has Kalulu in good form as Calabria sometimes can be hard to replace.
