Tuttosport: Kalulu’s value has more than tripled in a season – a pay rise is on the way

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to enjoy the growth of several young players and defender Pierre Kalulu is certainly right amongst them.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports that – when compared to the beginning of the season – the value of Kalulu has significantly increased from €8m to €28-30m. Given that he was signed as a full-back with no senior experience from Lyon, the return on the investment of less than €1m has been staggering so far.

The shift to centre-back due to the injury crisis of last season has allowed the Frenchman to show that he has all the credentials to become a great defender. From January onwards he was consistently excellent, becoming an immovable part of Pioli’s plans and even keeping captain Alessio Romagnoli benched.

The Milan management are subsequently working to renew his contract and increase his salary, which is currently around €400k net per season. The first meetings between the directors and his agents were interlocutory, but on both sides there is the firm will to come to an agreement soon, and the first request was for €1.8-2m.
