Teun Koopmeiners will return to San Siro to take on AC Milan on Saturday night, but last year he could have ended up calling it his new home.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via JuventusNews24) revealed some background on Koopmeiners in view of the game between Milan and Juventus this weekend, namely when he could have ended up with the Rossoneri.

Summer 2023 was the first time the Dutchman had seriously considered the possibility of leaving Atalanta, and he did so with an eye on Milan who were circling at the time having just sold Sandro Tonali for a club-record fee.

The Rossoneri attempted an approach but Atalanta made it clear that they wanted at least €50m to sell, and they would not budge. The Milan management then decided to go all-in to get a deal done for Tijjani Reijnders instead.

Reijnders has certainly been a positive signing, while Koopmeiners ended up joining Juve in the most recent summer window. Having battled an injury, the 26-year-old is ready to start showing why the Bianconeri paid over €50m to land him.

His record against Milan is good, given that he has three goals and one assists in seven games against them.

  1. Koopmeiners could have been fantastic for us.
If in 2023 we went for him and Hjulmand we might have had a terrific midfield by now.

  2. Wrong. We should have taken Teun Koopmeiners from AZ Alkmaar where he was team captain, he cost 14-15 million then and we should not have let him go to Atalanta. This is how the transfer market should be played.
And as Giga90 rightly says, we should have put 18-20 million on the table in the summer of 2023 and taken Hjulmand from Lecce. For that money it was a real bargain. But we very rarely know how to play in anticipation inspired in the transfer market.

    1. They wanted musah we needed hjulmand. We got musah.
Now one of these two is worth 50+M and is doing really good and the other has 3-5 good games for Milan out of 51 played.
      Still worth under 20M.

They did the same shît this summer. We needed a hjulmand type player. We got Fofana..

      1. For Fofana he ticked many boxes, he was french, he was from la Ligue 1, expiring contract and he had an insane heatmap to hype him, perfect candidate for Moncada.

        1. I still think he’s overrated piece of ****.

          Maybe I’m just a hater.

I just don’t see him becoming any more than he is. And that’s not food enough if we wanna compete with the best. Ofc redbird doesn’t want to compete with the best. They wanna be sustainable.
