Nikola Krstovic of Lecce

TMW: Krstovic’s brace leaves an impression on Milan but Lecce set high price

Nikola Krstovic had AC Milan on the precipice of a very dark moment during Saturday evening’s game, and the directors seemed to take note of his exploits.

The Montenegrin striker continues his trend of being pretty much the only player capable of scoring for Lecce as he netted his eighth and ninth Serie A goals of the season, via a rocket of a shot from outside the box and a lovely side-footed finish to cap off a counter-attack.

With his two goals against Milan, Krstovic has reached double figures for goals scored in Italy (he also has one in the Coppa Italia) after bagging nine times last season. The 24-year-old only seems to be getting strong and looks like another Corvino masterpiece.

TMW write that, with the summer approaching, Krstovic already seems highly sought after. Milan were left impressed by what they saw and they are ready to move to secure him, while the same can be said for Roma.

How much he could cost will all depend on Lecce’s final position in the table and whether they achieve survival. Corvino’s idea is to start with a request of around €30m, which however must be subordinated to the club obtaining safety.

Lecce have a three-point gap over the final relegation place with 10 games to go in the league. In the event that they did go down, the amount that the Giallorossi can collect would risk being at least halved.

    1. Hardly mid table, this is just bad decision making and coaching. If we were a midtable squad we would’ve been crushed by the likes of Lazio and actual midtable teams, as Atalanta and Sassuolo used to crush us. We aren’t there, we need a change of structure. In the past 4 seasons we’ve won the league, finished 2nd twice, and 4th.

  1. we do this every time! Bodo scored against us, we suddenly love Hauge, Salzburg, we love okafor etc etc. While some of the players are indeed talented (I mean Viny Jr scored against us in the UCL), being in love with the latest guy who scored against us shows me we have no freaking vision; just follow the latest shiny object

  2. So Gimenez will hit the road after 6 months and 35M spent? Not sure what this is about. Since we already have a starting striker, we ought to be spending 30M on other things. No. 1 is a top DM.

  3. A decent striker; the two goals he scored showed that. The only problem is that with the way we play, our strikers don’t get enough passes. He has stamina, and can take on any defender. Can’t count how many times Abraham falls in every game he plays, even with his size.

  4. I think he’s a profile that would suit us well. In my opinion we should be looking at two profiles for our man up front.

    1) A striker that is awesome through the air, even if they’re less mobile (like a Giroud). Pulisic and Leão feed in so many high quality crosses, we need someone on the end of them.

    2) A CF that is mobile and can dribble and really link up and be dangerous during open play. We have a lot of pace and fluidity during transitions, and someone that fits that mold would thrive

The problem with Santi, he doesn’t really fit either profile. He’s capable through the air but not a true threat. And he’s not very mobile, he has looked mostly clumsy trying to link up during open play . (He does have a great knack for goal and can shoot, I’m not giving up on him, but I don’t think he’s our ideal profile at all)

  5. LOL. Let’s buy him and wonder why he isn’t scoring the way he was scoring in Lecce where he actually had service while in Milan he’d be chasing the ball at the halfway-line and getting zero chances at the opponent’s end.
