GdS: Lazetic experiencing a golden moment – Milan consider him a ‘project’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan know they have a real talent on their hands as Marko Lazetic continues to impress, and there are ongoing studies to establish the best course of action for his future.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Lazetic scored a goal against Norway in the U19 European Championship qualifiers yesterday afternoon after having netted a brace against Macedonia a few days ago.

The Rossoneri staff are closely watching Lazetic’s growth and is ready to include him in the first team more over the coming weeks and months after his acclimatisation lasted longer than might have been expected when he landed in Italy in January.

At the time of his arrival, he was the third striker after Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Oliver Giroud but at only 18 years of age and without much senior football under his belt, he was used for just four minutes in the Coppa Italia in 2021-22.

He has also had his physical problems, which has affected how quickly he has been able to find the rhythm of Italian football. However, 2022-23 has begun well: two goals in the UEFA Youth League against Dinamo and Salzburg and a wonderful hat-trick against Atalanta in the league.

All this has been boosted by his performances with the national team, of which he is captain. Stefano Pioli gave him eight minutes off the bench against Cremonese with Giroud suspended, and now he wants to take him to the training camp in Dubai.

His coach in the Primavera, Ignazio Abate, spoke highly of the former Red Star man: “Lazetic is humble, he has a positive attitude. So he is an example for all his team-mates.”

The paper adds that Lazetic is a real project for Milan, with the suggestion in the media being that he could follow a path similar to that of his compatriot Dusan Vlahovic. The target of the management has always been to try and create the No.9 of the future on their own, ready to replace the Ibra-Giroud duo when they leave and/or retire.

The road is still long but given that Lazetic will leave for Dubai in a few days, it seems clear that Milan want to start trusting him a little more right away. A loan spell remains a plan B, but the club would need to find a team that guarantee playing time.
