CM: Lazetic ‘one step away’ from free Milan departure – how the deal will be structured

Marko Lazetic is heading towards an AC Milan exit this summer, but it will be another case where the Rossoneri get nothing.

Last summer, Daniel Maldini’s exit confused several people, given that Milan were pocketing little from the deal. Then, this summer, Mattia Liberali has left for nothing, in a deal where the future is where the structure lies.

It is becoming more common, and it can help with future purchases, should the Rossoneri wish to make another move. Additionally, it also helps get a player off the books when there are no fees upfront.

Lazetic’s departure

This, seemingly, will be the case for Lazetic. Earlier this summer, it was reported that Aberdeen were in talks for the youngster, and Daniele Longo confirms for Calciomercato.com that this deal will proceed.

The 21-year-old is ‘one step away’ from a move to Scotland, with the final formal steps awaiting to be agreed upon. Like some other youngsters who have left before him, he will leave for nothing, but with a high sell-on clause.

Of course, this brings a little risk. However, with his contract expiring next summer, it allows the Rossoneri to make something from the Serbian. Rather than losing any position in 12 months. In other words, a better deal.

    1. No more co-ownership of players.
    2. Limits on the number of players you can have on your books but loaned out.

You get a similar outcome and stay within the current rules.
Presume they made a judgement that Lazetic was not showing good enough progress to occupy a Loan slot. So move him out with a resale clause.
The receiving club has more incentive than a regular loan to develop the player.
